
Sweet Chamella (Ciambelle Dolce)
A sweet, anise flavored sweet roll traditionally made at Easter time.
6 eggs
2 pkgs. dry yeast
1 tsp. salt
2 cups sugar
3 tbsp. anise seed
½ cup vegetable oil
6 to 8 cups flour
Mix the yeast and warm water as directed.
In separate bowl, beat sugar, eggs, and oil. Add anise seeds and yeast mixture. Add flour and salt. Mix until texture is like bread dough, not too sticky.
Let dough rise until it doubles. Shape as desired (usually a ring shape) and place on cookie sheet to let rise again. Brush with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in a 350° oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
