Anisette Toasties

This is the “original” biscotti as made by many bakers from Abruzzo to America.  It is often dipped in coffee or another beverage.  Small children often cut their teeth on a toastie.

1 cup margarine
6 tsp. baking powder
1 ½ cups sugar
1 cup milk
6 eggs
1 tsp. anise seed
5-6 cups of flour
1 tsp. anise flavor

Mix all ingredients into a workable dough.  Divide into 4 portions and form into small loaves.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and golden brown.  After baking, slice, place on their sides on baking sheet and return to oven to toast. (can also broil). They should be lightly toasted and brown.

Store in airtight container.
